How MIT reimagined its digital presence for global impact
Working with MIT’s Office of Communications and Open Learning, co-led an Institute site redesign and launched the MIT Climate Portal—showcasing research, deepening engagement, and expanding MIT’s reach worldwide.
The Challenge
MIT’s digital presence drew millions of visitors through the Institute website, OpenCourseWare, and MITx. With such strong reach, the next step was to evolve the top-level website experience and learning platforms to better showcase MIT’s research culture and foster deeper engagement.
The Approach
In partnership with the Office of Communications and Open Learning, led two simultaneous initiatives:
- Redesign of MIT’s homepage and top-level digital experience, grounded in user research and information architecture.
- Launch of the MIT Climate Portal, an experiment in building community around a critical domain, grown through expert articles, interactive sessions, and one of MIT’s first podcasts.
Services Applied: Experience Design, Content & Growth, Podcast Development
The Results
Delivered digital experiences that set a new standard for MIT:
- Homepage redesign increased engagement by 30%, improved access to key initiatives, and was praised across the MIT community.
- The Climate Portal became a trusted hub for expert content and interactive sessions, with its companion podcast winning two awards and extending MIT’s global reach.
- The portal was formally adopted into the Institute’s Environmental Solutions Initiative, embedding it into MIT’s long-term climate strategy.
